With the rapid development of ICTs, Simple, open source internet-based applications and services are available to the wider public at little or no cost at all. These new online technologies known as Web 2.0 applications – sometimes called ‘social media’- enable people to collaborate, to create, share and publish information. However, it is clear that these technologies are not well utilized at individual or organizational level simply due to low awareness or limited knowledge.
With above short background, RTN in partnership with Technical Centre for Agriculture and Rural cooperation (EU-CTA), has been proving capacity building opportunities in use and adoption of web 2.0 and social media. The first training took place in November 2011 and was possible due to partnership between RTN, CTA and Ministry of Agriculture. In addition to around 100 who benefited from the training co-organized with CTA, RTN has provided short training on web 2.0 and social media to more that 1,000 people in Rwanda though Telecentres. Participants are drawn from different organizations working in agriculture and rural development including government, educational institutions, non-government organizations (NGO), civil society’s groups and farmers cooperatives. Currently RTN plans to scale the web 2.0 and social media training in all Telecentres at National level. Click here to learn more on impact of web 2.0 and social media.
