RTN partners with UNESCO to assess the Gender-sensitiveness of community radio in Rwanda

The 61st meeting of International Programme for the development (IPDC) which was held in Paris-France at UNESCO headquarters on 21st to 23rd approved RTN proposal to assess gender-sensitiveness of community radio in Rwanda. The assessment will be done using UNESCO Gender sensitive Indicators for Media (GSIM) .The project will be implemented within UNESCO framework related to strengthening free, independent, and pluralistic media and within its efforts to develop plurality and diversity in the media through IPDC.

Using GSIM the assessment is aimed at identifying gender equality gaps in 4 community radio as well as mobilizing the media on the importance of promoting gender equality in a clear and understandable way for their audiences.

Since 2015, RTN has already has been actively engage in UNESCO project related to the strengthening community radio in the use of Information and communication Technologies (ICT). In the course of implementing this project a baseline study was conducted by RTN in 2016 and training in the use of Internet to report on on issue of public concern was organized in January 2017.
