The Rwanda Telecentre Network (RTN) was granted license by Rwanda Utility Regulatory Authority (RURA) to operate as Internet service Provider. Granting ISP license is this is considered as critical step towards increasing access to internet in rural Rwanda as well as access on online services.
Telecommunications companies in general and Internet service providers (ISPs) in particular have regarded rural and remote areas as unattractive markets with some combination of “too-complex-to-serve” and “not-interesting- enough economically” to be worthy of sustained attention. As the time goes on and the adoption of ICT in Rwanda is quickly taking place, RTN is strongly aware that with clear business model what have been perceived as backwaters is more likely to become an attractive market with sustained income.
RTN is committed to extending a Network of ICT access points (Also known as Telecentres) which act as the most reliable point of delivery of online services Rwandans. Currently, 950 centres under RTN flagship are offering e-government (G2C) services through Irembo portal as well as business to citizen services (B2C).
